PEOPLECERT Commiting to the Code of Best Practices for Women in ICT
More than 50 companies - such as Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, France-Telecom, Google, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft,Οrange, Panasonic and SAP- have signed the ‘‘Code of Best Practices for Women and Technology’’- committing themselves to implement actions to eliminate women’s underrepresentation in the ICT sector. Since December 2010, the PEOPLECERT Group has recognized the problem and has been participating in the European Commission’s initiative by signing the Code of Best Practices for women in ICT.

Anita Borg and Denice Denton Award Nominations Open
The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology announced it has opened the Call for Nominations for three awards: the Anita Borg Social Impact, Anita Borg Technical Leadership and the Denice Denton Emerging Leader Awards. Nominees may be submitted by high-tech companies, universities, private industry, and the general public. One winner will be selected in each category.

BCS Women Lovelace Colloquium: Thursday 14th April 2011
This annual one-day event is open to all undergraduate AND taught postgraduate women in computing and related disciplines across the UK, and beyond. The day comprises a poster competition for students, speakers from industry and academia, and concludes with a social event. The event is named after Ada Lovelace, a computing pioneer and often considered to be the first programmer. The aims of this event are: to provide a forum for undergraduate women to share their ideas and network; to provide a stimulating series of talks from women in computing, both from academia and industry; to provide both formal (talks) and informal (networking) advice to undergraduate women about careers in computing from a female perspective.

European Gender Summit 2011, 8th and 9th November 2011, Brussels
European policymakers have singled out knowledge, education and innovation, as key drivers for sustainable growth and prosperity of the European society, with research and innovation placed at the centre of the EU 2020 Strategy. Gender equality goals have been highlighted in September 2010 by the Council for European Union, which called for implementation of systematic and visible gender mainstreaming actions and advised that to accelerate progress towards equality between women and men, more coordinated cooperation is needed between all relevant actors. The European Science Foundation and genSET have partnered to deliver the first European Gender Summit. This conference brings together leaders in science research and in policy to discuss emerging trends and advances in understanding how gender issues impact science research and innovation at the European Level.
