IEEE hosts Community Chats to encourage women into engineering careers
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will be hosting a series of online conversations about getting more women into technology careers as part of a wider campaign. Members of the organisation will be able to view many global Community Chats over the next four weeks that include one-hour interactive video discussions hosted by female technology experts from across the world.

Women of Wikipedia edit planned
The Wikipedia profiles of women in technology and engineering will be updated at an "edit-a-thon" held at the Royal Society next month. The profiles chosen to be updated will all be of historical figures. Those unable to attend the session in London on 19 October will be able to take part online. The event has been organised as part of annual celebrations to celebrate the legacy of Ada Lovelace.

Weekend, Women 2.0 And Others To Launch Google For Entrepreneurs
Google today announced the launch of Google For Entrepreneurs, the company’s new umbrella for all of its programs that support startups and entrepreneurs around the world. The program’s focus, says Google, will be to partner with strong organizations in local communities and to organize Google-led programs that connect the company’s own teams and tools with entrepreneurs. In addition, Google wants to make sure that it places “relevant Google tools in the hands of startups as they are getting off the ground and ready to scale.” To do so, the company has already partnered with a number of accelerators and incubators around the world, including Startup Weekend in the U.S., iHub in Kenya, Le Camping in France and Women 2.0.

Online Mentors to Guide Women Into the Sciences
Hundreds of prominent women working in science, technology, engineering and math will become online mentors for college students next month, part of a six-week program to encourage young women to pursue careers in STEM fields. The program has no curriculum, no exam, no grades and no credit - just a goal of connecting young students with accomplished women working in STEM fields. Prominent universities - including the California Institute of Technology, Cornell, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton, Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley - have been quick to sign on, contributing mentors and publicizing the program to students.

Figures show majority of female interim managers are without a private pension
Around a quarter of female interim managers do not have a private pension set up, with 60 per cent not thinking of putting one together in the next year. That is according to a new report by Interim Women - a business network for women in interim roles - which also found that the majority of the people it questioned were over 40-years-old. Alarmingly, around a third of those questioned said that they worry about their financial future every day, with around half worried they are not saving enough for retirement.

Where are the women in IT?
It's no surprise that many CIOs may find themselves looking around their IT departments and asking, 'Where are the women in IT?' The IT industry has long recognised the need to encourage more women to pursue careers in the IT industry. However, this issue still looms.e " Research from the Harvey Nash CIO 2012 survey found that 27 per cent of Australian CIOs have no women in IT management roles, 21 per cent have no women in technical roles and 16 per cent have no women in business facing roles such as a business analyst.

Host of Ideas launches new award scheme for start-ups
Host of Ideas has launched a new award scheme for start-up businesses founded or run by women anywhere in the world. The crowdfunding platform, which provides a platform for influential investors and start-ups to share ideas, has opened entry for applications, which are free to submit until September 30th. UC Berkeley instructors develop new computer science course
Two UC Berkeley instructors are developing a new advanced placement computer science course geared in part at increasing historically low female and minority enrollment in the field. The course, which is anticipated to be offered in high schools nationwide starting in the 2015-16 school year, aims to fill a critical gap in computer science education and a lack of gender and racial diversity in computer science - a trend that has been documented at UC Berkeley.
