RURAL WOMEN TAKE THE IT ROUTE
The Information Technology career is now not happening in the cities only but in the gaining ground in rural areas of the district. And guess who? Women are taking the lead, for a change. Following their urban counterparts, large number of rural women are opting for computers as a career option. The recently conducted training programmes by Pune Zilla Parishad have shown that out of total applicants, near 25 per cent of women have opted for training related to computers.

GIRLS GET THEIR GEEK ON AT CAMP
The computer assembly class at Mound Westonka High School is one of 12 sites nationwide for a three-day camp intended to get girls involved in all types of technology. There was a camp at Inver Hills Community College last week. The Geek Squad has a special summer mission: Getting more girls interested in computers and computer careers.

GOOGLE SPONSORS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRACE HOPPER CELEBRATION OF WOMEN IN COMPUTING CONFERENCE
World's Largest Gathering of Technical Women in Computing The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology (ABI) has announced that Google will be funding more than 50 scholarships for women to attend the 8th Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) of Women in Computing Conference. These scholarships cover conference registration as well as travel and hotel expenses.The scholarships are available in multiple areas.

A REPORT ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN IN COMPUTING IN THE UNITED STATES
According to the most recent Taulbee survey for the academic year 2006-2007 [1], 19.1% of new Ph.D.s and 22.6% of the Master's degrees were awarded to women. These numbers represent a slight increase in the ratio of women among new Ph.D.s and about the same ratio of Master's degrees as the previous year.
