As an organization dedicated to empowering and educating women on a worldwide scale, Girls in Tech possesses natural synergies with other organizations with the same values, and an ability to cast a global net. The UN Foundation is one example. It's an international organization with the reach - and vision - to tackle global issues. Through myriad programs and outreach, the UN Foundation works to enact and support the initiatives of the United Nations. The United Nations Foundation ''links the UN's work with others around the world, mobilizing the energy and expertise of business and non-governmental organizations to help the UN tackle issues including climate change, global health, peace and security, women's empowerment, poverty eradication, energy access, and U.S.-UN relations.''

For the first time in NASA history, half of the newest astronaut class is female! Christina Hammock Koch, Nicole Aunapu Mann, Anne McClain, and Jessica Meir began the intensive selection process and training over two years ago, and now they've officially joined NASA's astronaut corps. The four, along with their four male counterparts, were selected from a pool of over 6,000 applicants.

Why do so few women sign up for careers in science, technology, engineering and math? Research suggests having few women in college in these fields and in technology companies creates a vicious cycle.

New report offers policy recommendations to sustain momentum for computer science education. U.S. institutions should make every effort to expand computer science education to keep up with workforce demands, according to a new report from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF). And though interest in computer science education, and access to it, is growing, the report found that not enough students are taking high-quality computer science classes at high school and university levels. The report found that at the university level, the U.S. boasts strong computer science programs, but universities still aren't keeping up with demand.

A new program aims to boost women's careers so they can get to the executive level of companies and boards. One group of women aims to break that glass ceiling by helping each other become leaders. Founded in 2013, The CLUB (an acronym for Connect, Lead, Unite, Build) is a diverse community of professional women with over 200 members. Membership is by application and the CLUB also offers networking and member-led skills development and other programming relevant to career advancement. To help solve the pipeline problem, the CLUB's organizers hope to ''build a critical mass of women leaders in Silicon Valley, so that when a company needs to fill a leadership position, whether for a CEO, CIO, CTO, general counsel, director, or a project leader, it need not look any further than the CLUB.''

The Call for Nomination for the 19th edition of the L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards is now open. Since 1998, the L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme has aimed to ensure that research in every field takes full advantage of the intelligence, creativity and passion of one-half of the population of the planet. Over the past 18 years, the program has honoured 92 distinguished Laureates, including two who went on to win the Nobel Prize, and supported 2,438 greatly talented women for their outstanding accomplishments that contribute to making the world a better place. The 2017 edition of the Awards will celebrate five outstanding scientific researchers in the Physical Sciences (chemistry, physics, astronomy...), working in one of the following regions: Africa & the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. Each of the five Laureates will receive an award of 100,000 EUR to further their impactful research. The Call for Nomination is open until June 20th, 2016.
