TechStars should recruit more health IT startups for its upcoming class
As New York City incubator TechStars seeks new entrepreneur talent for its spring class of 2012, it should look at boosting its health IT numbers. Doing this would better reflect the growing investment in health IT and its role to reduce healthcare costs. The application deadline for the class is Jan. 23 and the program begins March 12.The company pairs at least 10 mentors in the local technology industry with each startup to give founders access to both seasoned entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, according to its website.

Women s progress in the boardroom has flatlined
Progress for women in IT Jobs and across all sectors in achieving equality at the top of business has stalled, with the number of women being appointed to senior boardrooms having "flatlined". This is according to Meg Whitman, chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, one of few women who have reached the top of the world's largest companies. Speaking to The Times, she said that gender equality in the City was improving during the 70s, 80s and 90s but has since slowed. At the same time, however, she stressed that women have made huge gains in academia and medicine, but not in business.

WIRES 2012 – Women s International Research Engineering Summit in Athens
Women’s International Research Engineering Summit (WIRES) was launched in year 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. The 2nd WIRES summit was organized in 2011 in Orlando, Florida, USA. Victorian ICT for Women is an inclusive networking forum for urban and regional women in ICT. The network aims to boost the shortage of women in the ICT industry through practical programs designed to attract and retain women in the field.The Victorian ICT for Women Network is an industry-driven initiative which aims to facilitate entry, retention and progression for women working in ICT.

Explore IT in Canada, 9 May 2012
Explore IT focuses on introducing young women to career possibilities in ICT. Women are underrepresented in the ICT field and while females represent 56.4% of university enrollment and 52.5% of college enrollment, only 23.4% of workers in ICT occupations were female in 2006.2 Along with engineering and technology programs, ICT programs experience very low female enrollment. In 2005 (the most recent year for which there is published data), women accounted for only 14.4% of undergraduate degrees in computer engineering and 15.1% in software engineering. Explore IT is an interactive conference for grade nine girls to explore the exciting world of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

ECWT to play a key role in Arab Women in ICT Summit follow-up
The first Arab Women in ICT Summit was held with high-level involvement of over 500 participants the 6-7 December 2011 in Rabat, Morocco. The event was organized by IDC and ISESCO in collaboration with Dell, Intel, UN Women, UNDP, UNESCWA CAWTAR, World Bank, ITU, Fondation Mohammed VI and the European Centre for Women and Technology (ECWT). Participants included several Ministers of IT from the Arab World, major ICT vendors, female ICT researchers and entrepreneurs, NGOs and students.
